Leaning into the sentimental and personal with a goal of making work that feels universal.

If you’re wondering how you got here - yes, this is mostly a quilting account, but my creative excitement has brought me here for now. I’m sure I’ll get back to quilting soon 🧵
.
The yarn that I used to make these vases was at the end of its usefulness. Knit, frogged, reknit - at least 3 times. Once a sweater that I wore when I was pregnant with my first child. Nothing beats the poetry of life. 🧶

Going another direction. Adding another branch to the tree of my artwork. Yarn + Clay. New collection of work will drop in September, Inshallah. Until then, I have one piece available. See my highlighted post for a little fundraiser.

[details for makers] I’ve been working over the last couple months on a new collection of work. Pieces that combine ceramic and fiber art. This is one of my favorite pieces from the collection - a tiny porcelain luminary. Adding little bits of light to the world as we can. 📝

Creating work from my family’s old clothing for my family is where I’ve been for years. My walls are full now so I’m also finally ready to sell as well. Still only making things I love, though. 💙

This isn’t my culture. I’m not Palestinian. I thought about not posting about the thobe I’m making at all on my grid for that reason… but I want to share how much I love this thobe making class by @thethobeproject. Samia is a person whose presence is like a living library. Her next thobe making cohort starts in July. 🧵

[details for makers] our hands testify to how we used them. Our callouses build in the same ways as for those who practiced our crafts in generations gone by. We’ll never fully understand their lives, but we can get closer by picking up our needles. In every stitch, my intention is also to include a prayer for the suffering. 🇵🇸 Free Palestine. 📝

[details for makers] The sheer linen curtains I looked out during the pandemic. They allowed light into our home in the most beautiful way. This series is a rumination on missed connections, tattered objects, and my love for all that’s worn down by our lives. Other materials included are scraps from my quilting practice, leftover and reclaimed threads, and an old pillowcase (the framing fabric). I’m grateful that you crossed paths with my work and hope the right path is created in giving these pieces homes.
Piece measures 5” x 5” and is stretched over a canvas.
