Knitted Porcelain 16 ~luminary~ (seconds)
I’ve been working on understanding what can be created by combining clay and cotton yarn for about a year. Many of my experiments have ended in failure, but I’m in love with this process and can’t seem to stop.
These works were created using cotton yarn (always harvested from the cotton yarn already in my life - old sweaters, leftovers, etc, etc). I knitted that yarn into forms, which were then coated in porcelain slip. In the first firing, the kiln burns away the yarn leaving only porcelain. But in a form that could never exist if the yarn hadn’t been there. Finally, fired again with a clear glaze.
Specific to this one of a kind piece:
Functions as a luminary
Size: 4.5” x 4.5” x 3.5”
Shade: Medium blue
There are two tiny cracks on the base of this piece.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for shipment. These pieces are extremely delicate. Shipping overcharges will be refunded.
